KICKR switches into Standard mode when ftp test interval begins, level 3 resistance. When it switches, you'll be able to control the power output by altering your cadence and gearing. If that was too difficult, you can pause the ride and go to the Devices tab in TrainerRoad, select the KICKR, and bump the Standard mode resistance down to 2. When you adjust the intensity, it just changes the target power of the ride. In order to actually make it easier, you'll need to drop the resistance level down. And during those testing intervals, you'll want to completely ignore the target power and give your all-out effort.
