The One Man Dog front cover photograph was taken sometime in the summer of 1972 by Peter Simon.
James and Carly, along with James' dog David payed a visit to Carly's brother Peter who was a photographer living near Brattelboro,Vermont. At some point Peter asked James the name of his next album. There was a pond in the property so Peter suggested James and the dog get in a boat for the album cover.
The photos on the back cover were taken at James' house. The guy sitting in the rockingchair next to Peter Asher is probably Robert Appere who was the audio mixer for the album.
