As there are both permanent residents and visitors in the Helsinki area looking for social rides who do not fluently read Finnish, I thought it might be a good idea to share some information about our informal but regular Mustavuori group rides in English. (If someone would like to add Swedish, French, German, Russian, Estonian, Italian, Spanish, etc., be my guest.)

These rides occur four times a week: on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18 hrs, on Saturdays and Sundays at 10 o'clock, starting from the so-called Mustavuori parking lot in Vuosaari, East Helsinki. The exact location of the meeting place: N=6679247, E=396814 (ETRS-TM35FIN (https://asiointi.maanmittauslaitos.fi/karttapaikka/?share=customMarker&n=6679247&e=396814&title=Mustavuoren%20kohtaamispaikka&desc=Porukkalenkkien%20l%C3%A4ht%C3%B6paikka.&zoom=10&layers=%5B%7B%22id%22%3A2%2C%22opacity%22%3A100%7D %5D)). In the summer, these are road rides. During the winter season, from October onward and until March or April, we tend to go gravel grinding and off-road, too (cyclocross, endurance oriented mountain biking).

An ongoing forum discussion in Finnish can be found here (http://www.fillarifoorumi.fi/forum/showthread.php?56328-It%E4-Helsingin-Mustavuoren-porukkalenkit). Feel free to chip in, either here or there.

These social rides are typically ridden at a steady pace, average speed being somewhere between 30 to 35 kph, and distance varying between the two or three hour week-day evening ride and the four to six hours or more on Saturdays and Sundays.

Basic group ride know-how (http://www.active.com/cycling/articles/6-basic-skills-for-group-rides) is strictly required from every participant and safety is the no. 1 priority.

Welcome!

'Up', or in other words, let's refresh this topic, as there are inquiries about the Helsinki area group rides in English, now and then, in social media.

Is there general interest to ride tomorrow at the usual time from the usual place, namely 10 am from the Mustavuori parking lot? Tomorrow is August 10, 2019. Unfortunately I am myself unable to participate, but I would encourage anyone who's interested to let others know about it...

Hello,

Thanks Troll Berga for all the information. Do you know if the rides starting from Mustavuori are road or still gravel/cyclocross? I would like to train with the group the upcoming week but not sure if should switch to road tires.
