Hi there!

My name is Dirk and I'm a mountainbike enthousiast (xc/marathon/light all mountain) from Holland. From 26-5-2013 to 09-6-2013 We are in Finland for our vacation. We're staying at the cottage of my parrents in law in Tammela.
Are there any riders on this forum that would like to go riding with me and show there local trails/singletracks? I have a car and can go anywhere in a range of about 150km from Tammela.
Most of the time in Holland I ride singlespeed xc and about 4 times a year I try to ride a +100km marathon (no competition...)
I've also read about Calpis bike park. I have no experience riding downhill, but there should be some easy/beginners trails?
I like to here from you!

Cheers!
Dirk

Hi,

Well I live in Lieto (80km to southwest from Tammela). I´m sure I can show you some trails from Lieto-Turku - area.
Most of the trails have quite a lot roots and rocks, but there is some nice ones also ;)

150km from tammela covers most of southern finland trails. I think that closest trails are around räyskälä, lots of smooth and fast trails.

Regarding bike parks I would suggest Messilä or Sappee rather than Calpis. Especially if you haven't been to one before.

Take a look at Hämeen järviylänkö thread (http://www.fillarifoorumi.fi/forum/showthread.php?38951-H%E4meen-J%E4rviyl%E4ng%F6n-polut)

Outdoors map that area (http://www.luontoonhame.fi/hame/?lang=englanti)

You might consider getting papermap, can get one from Hämeen luontokeskus (http://www.outdoors.fi/customerservicepoints/visitorcentres/hame/Pages/Default.aspx) (some nice trails there too) and friendly crew to help. Some nice trails in Tammela too.

Some stories (http://mtbfin.eu/r/?p=766) from area.

Hi,
we've met at mtbr...
If you come to Tampere, we can probably work out a way to get you on some trails just outside town.

The weather for the southern part of Finland looks pretty normal for the next 10 days: some possibility of rain and most days should be pretty warm.
I went out for about 4 hours yesterday, on my rigid 26er singlespeed. Don't know about distance but my guess is between 40 and 50km. Feeling a bit beat up now....

Looks like there's people going to the Korso Marathon, but they are probably not reading this thread. According to the comments I've seen, the route is not hard, except for some spots that get tricky if it rains.

We have just arrived at Tammela! Weather looks OK. Bikes have survived the trip so I'm ready to go! Tomorrow I'll check the family's schedule..

I've registered to Korso marathon 96km so Sunday I will see the course... ;)

Hi Smo,

Just read your reply... Today I went to the Hämeen luontokeskus and asked for some paper maps. The friendly lady there tried to print a map for me but the printer wasn't working properly.
She told me to go to Liesjärvi National park. I would like to go there but I'm not sure where I can go with a mountainbike. The lady told me that the smallest paths are forbidden for cyclists..

Yes, it is common practice in the national parks. On the attached document You can see the allowed tracks (roads) in the Liesjärvi.

They should be selling "Hämeen Järviylängön Ulkoilukartta"[/img] that is the bigger area
You could borrow one from Forssa library if your friends have library card ..

Technically smallest paths are indeed forbidden but there is no signs about it so tchnically maybe you don't know :) .. in weekends there can be more people but weekdays you can be almost alone .. you might cycle urheiluopisto-luontokeskus-siltalahti-pirttilahti-kopinlahti-Korteniemi-and back via Peukalolammi - Kaksvetinen .. Kyynäräharju is (narrow betveen Pirttilahti-Kopinlahti water both sides and small bridge), Savilahti fire-tentplace is nice but sometimes crowded.

Red trail around Koteniemi guite nice, blue trail carry bike, red trail Hyypiökallio high hill bike carry not nice also Siltamäki-Sikomäki trail very tricky partly partly very nice, Can skeak in from car way, 1/ trail from Siltamäki trickiest part.. also boardwalks from Luontokeskus towards Liesjärvi used to bee in crappy condition don't know current situation .. read that "Hämeen järviylängön polut" thread .. google translates well
